Without Conscience by Robert D Hare PhD

This book is fascinating. I was interested in psychopaths in the community, rather than in prison, and this book covers both. It explores how psychopaths behave, what drives them, how they treat their family and acquaintances. When your child is a psychopath and how to get help, as well as looking at how to protect yourself when you find yourself in a relationship with a psychopath.

Of course, psychopaths are charming, charismatic and sociable when it suits them to get their way. So you cannot always tell if you're getting involved with a psychopath until later on in the relationship. It talks about psychological tests and assessments, diagnostics, behaviour problems, lack of empathy or remorse. And there are loads of case studies. A really interesting book.

  1. I love psychology, why people do what they do. I have also read this book and it was very interesting and a good read. You may have already read it but another interesting psychology book is Influence The Psychology of Persuasion By Robert B. Cialdini.
