For anyone who's interested in the mind of a psychopath
(sociopath being the polite term for it) this book reveals all. It's written
under a pseudonym by a 'high functioning' non-criminal psychopath who uses
manipulation to get what she wants in life and enjoys 'ruining' other people
for the sheer entertainment value it brings.
There were many times in this book
when I felt like putting it down, as it filled me with disgust and distaste.
But I dislike giving up on books, and it doesn't happen often. I took a break
and then continued. It's horrible, but interesting at the same time. The
arrogance, selfishness, total lack of empathy or regard for other people, and
the seeking of entertainment at other people's expense, might remind you of a
few people you've known in life. Psychopaths? Who knows. There are a lot of
them about apparently - and they're not all in prison. Something like 1% of
the population is estimated to be a psychopath. They do well in business as
they have little regard for the human element, but get results. At the end of the
book, I'm left wondering how flexible the definition is.
I've known people who
are entirely self-serving, without empathy, and highly manipulative, but not
obviously impulsive - which is a trait of a 'sociopath' according to the book. Not a book I'd recommend, but perhaps insightful if you really want to get into the
mind of a psychopath.
